I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of singer Benny Dayal and model-actress Catherine Thangam in Bangalore. Benny—famous for Badtameez Dil—might’ve had every reason to carry a star attitude, but both he and Cathy were refreshingly grounded and full of warmth.

We had originally planned to do the pre-wedding photoshoot in Goa, but it didn’t happen before the big day. After the wedding, we spoke again about making it work whenever their schedules allowed. With both of them usually packed with commitments, it took a while—but a few months later, we finally made it happen in Goa.

Now technically, it wasn’t a pre-wedding photoshoot in Goa as they were already married, but it had all the charm, anticipation, and spontaneity of one. The energy between them, the sense of newness, and the joy of just being together made it feel like a celebration of everything a pre-wedding shoot should capture.

We met for just an afternoon, a quick in-and-out trip for them, and strolled through the colourful Portuguese quarter of Fontainhas in Panaji. The narrow lanes, vintage corners, and lived-in feel of the place made the perfect backdrop.

We ended the shoot the way one should in Goa—at Joseph’s Bar, sipping Feni and Urak, toasting to stories already lived and those still unfolding.
